After Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka is also planning to enact Prevention of Cow Killing Ordinance. Prabhu Chauhan, the Minister of Animal Husbandry of Karnataka State himself confirmed this and said that many states have already made such a law, we are also in the process of implementing it soon.

The state government will soon impose restrictions on slaughter, sale and consumption of beef on the lines of many other states. Significantly, Uttar Pradesh issued the ‘Cow Slaughter Prevention (Amendment) Ordinance on 9 June, 2020. According to the ordinance, illegal transportation of bovine animals and cow slaughter will carry a 10-year imprisonment and a fine of up to 5 lakh.

Prabhu Chauhan said that before implementing this law, he will talk to Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa and set up a special team. If necessary, this team will also visit states like Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat where this law is already in force. He further said, “If Corona’s situation improves by next session, the state assembly will try to bring Karnataka ‘Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Bill”.
