Big decision of UP cabinet: 10 years of imprisonment on cow slaughter and a fine up to 5 lakh

The Yogi Cabinet has approved the Prevention of Cow slaughter Amendment Ordinance 2020 for the protection of bovine animals in Uttar Pradesh and to prevent crime related to incidents of cow slaughter. The ordinance clearly states that the crime of harming or killing a cow in Uttar Pradesh will be non-bailable.

There can also be an action to confiscate property under the Gangster Act on those who killed cow. There is also a provision in the ordinance to place the poster of the accused of cow slaughter in his locality. According to the government, the purpose of this ordinance is to make the Prevention of Slaughter Act 1955 more effective.

After the approval of the proposal for amendment of the Act, there is a provision for punishment of 3 years to maximum of 10 years or penalty of 3 lakh to a maximum of 5 lakhs if the charge of cow slaughter is proved in the first place. At the same time, there is a provision for both fines and punishment if the charge of cow killing is proved for the second time. A provision has also been made to take action and confiscate property under the Gangster Act. There is a provision for imprisonment of 1 to 7 years and a fine of 1 lakh to 3 lakh to the accused of violating the cow dynasty and causing life threat.

Taking a dig at the ordinance, the Samajwadi Party said that the Yogi government only makes laws, it does not work to land it. The SP alleged that the BJP only asks for votes in the name of the cow. The plight of cows in Uttar Pradesh today is not hidden from anyone. The condition of cowsheds is so bad that cows are dying without water and feed. At the same time, Congress also alleged that the Uttar Pradesh government is not able to provide even fodder in its gaushalas. Cows are dying of hunger.
