High court decides to monitor the disposal of dead bodies of Covid-19 dead patients

The Delhi High Court said on Tuesday that it would monitor the implementation of the recent orders of the Delhi AAP government to dispose of the bodies of people who died due to corona virus.

Delhi High Court Judge Justice DN Patel and Justice Prateek Jalan said that the court would like to see how the Delhi government’s May 30 directive on disposal of dead bodies of people who died of Covid-19 has worked at the ground level. Sanjay Ghosh, Additional Permanent Advocate of Delhi Government appearing in the court on behalf of the Health Department, said that the court particularly wants to see that the bodies of those who died of Covid-19 on 31st May and 1st June as per the order of 30 May Whether settlement has been done or not. Ghosh also said that the court has asked the Delhi government to submit an updated status report in the case, two days before the next hearing of the case on June 15.

The Health Department’s order of 30 May prescribes the responsibility of the medical director of the hospital or the director of the hospital for disposal of the dead bodies within a certain time limit after the death of infected or suspected patients from Covid-19. Declared dead or brought dead. It has also been said in the order that the concerned municipal corporation will make all arrangements for the funeral or burial of those bodies. On the basis of media reports, the court was hearing public interest litigation with automatic cognizance. It was said in these reports that there is a lack of facilities for the cremation of the bodies of those who died of Covid-19 and the bodies are rotting in the morgue. The court said in this case that if this situation is true then it is grossly unsatisfactory and a violation of the rights of the deceased.
