PM Modi reviews power sector, said it is necessary to prepare state-specific solutions

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that instead of looking for the same solution for all states in the power sector, each state should devise a state-specific solution to encourage it to improve its performance.

Modi emphasized the need to increase consumer satisfaction by increasing the operational efficiency of the power sector and ensuring financial continuity or stability. According to an official release issued on Thursday, the Prime Minister discussed various policy initiatives taken to address major problems in the power sector, including the revised tariff policy and the Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2020. According to the statement, the Prime Minister advised the Ministry of Power to ensure that the power distribution companies (DISCOMs) publish their performance parameters from time to time so that people can know how their performance compares to the counterparts.

He also emphasized that equipment used in the power sector should be compliant with ‘Make in India’. Mentioning new and renewable energy, the Prime Minister emphasized the need to adopt a holistic approach to the entire supply chain of the agriculture sector ranging from solar water pumps to decentralized solar cold storages.

The Prime Minister expressed a desire to accelerate the scheme of ‘Carbon-free Ladakh’ and at the same time put special emphasis on the supply of drinking water in coastal areas using solar and wind energy.
