PM Modi to launch ‘Garib Kalyan Rozgar Abhiyan’ to help migrant laborers:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch a “big” rural public works scheme on Saturday to empower migrant laborers who returned to their home state and provide livelihood to them to prevent the spread of the corona virus.
In an official statement on Thursday, it was told that Modi will launch ‘Garib Kalyan Rozgar Abhiyan’ on June 20 through video conference in the presence of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Modi. The campaign will be launched from Telihar village of Beldore block in Khagaria district of Bihar. The Chief Minister of five other states and some Union ministers will also take part in the digital launch of the scheme.
The statement said that more than 25,000 migrant workers from a total of 116 districts of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jharkhand and Odisha have been selected for the campaign which includes 27 aspirational districts.
It is said that about two-thirds of such migrant laborers are estimated to be included in these districts. Villages of 116 districts of six states will participate in the program through shared service centers and Krishi Vigyan Kendras following social distance norms in the wake of the global epidemic of Covid-19. The campaign is a 125-day campaign focusing on 25 different tasks to provide employment to migrant laborers and to build infrastructure in rural areas of the country.
