‘Self-reliant’ from rifle to missile, now India will build these 101 deadly weapons at home

Taking a strong step towards self-sufficiency in the defense sector, India has banned the import of 101 such defense goods. This does not mean that our army will no longer be able to get these devices, but India will now make these goods and weapons of its own need. These restrictions announced by the central government will be implemented in a phased manner by December 2025.

Prohibition on import of 69 devices from December 2020

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh gave this information by tweeting on Sunday. Let me tell you that in one of the addresses during the lockdown, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for self-reliant India on 12 May 2020. Working on this appeal of the PM, the Ministry of Military Affairs (DMA) and the Ministry of Defense have made a list of 101 goods and prohibited their import. Out of the list of 101 instruments and weapons, import of 69 will be banned from December 2020 itself.

With this decision of the Ministry of Defense, India now has artillery guns, ground-to-air short-range missiles, ship-dropped cruise missiles, assault rifles, light combat helicopters, radars, ballistic helmets, bullet proof jackets and Transport will not import aircraft. Under the new defense policy and self-reliant India campaign, they will be made in their own country.

Giving information about this decision, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said that before stopping the import, it has been discussed that the operational activity of the army should not be affected and these goods can be produced in India only within the fixed timeframe.

After December 2021, India will also prohibit the import of high technology such as Wheeled Armored Fighting Vehicle, Light Machine Gun, Assault Rifle, Mine Anti-Tank, Mine Anti Personnel Blast, Grenade and will start production in the country.

By December 2022, India will ban the import of under-barrel grenade launcher, light rocket launcher.

By December 2023, Beyond Visual Range Air to Air missile, communication satellite GSAT-7C, is about to ban the import of basic trainer aircraft.

From December 2024, India will also ban the import of small jet engines.

From December 2025, India will also stop the purchase of long-range land attack cruise missiles.

Military efficiency is not affected

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said that the plan to ban the import of defense equipment would be implemented gradually in a phased manner between 2020 and 2024, so that under no circumstances would the military’s functionality be affected, he added. That this prohibition will create large-scale employment opportunities in the defense sector in India, because India will produce these goods on its own.

Domestic defense sector will get 4 lakh crore order

Explain that in this year’s defense budget, a huge amount of 52000 crores has been allocated for the purchase of defense equipment from domestic markets. According to an estimate, after the implementation of this policy by the government, in the next 6 to 7 years, the domestic defense industry of the country will get an order of 4 lakh crores.
