Supreme Court gives notice to Maharashtra government on plea to handover Palghar case to CBI

A hearing was held in the Supreme Court today to demand a CBI inquiry into the murder of three people including two sadhus in Palghar, Maharashtra. The court has sought an answer from the Maharashtra government in this matter. The next hearing of the case will be held in July. At the same time, the court has also sought an answer from the government on a petition filed by another lawyer demanding an NIA inquiry.
Earlier, a petition was filed in this case by the relatives of the sadhus and the Juna Akhada. It was said in the petition that investigation of the Maharashtra government and the Police can not be trusted, so the CBI should investigate the case.

According to a report, the petition said that the role of the police in this murder case is doubtful, hence it is suspected that Maharashtra Police will investigate the matter properly, so it should be handed over to the CBI.
Earlier, the matter was heard in the Supreme Court on May 1, in which the court had directed the Maharashtra Police to submit the status report of the inquiry. The bench of Justice Ashok Bhushan and Justice Sanjiv Khanna had asked the Maharashtra Police to respond in this matter in four weeks. At the same time, according to the police, more than 100 people were detained in this case so far.

In Palghar, three people including two sadhus Kalpavrikshgiri (70), Sushilgiri Maharaj (35), and their driver were brutally murdered by a mob. After the murder, everyone hid in the bushes of the adjacent village. After the matter came to light, the Uddhav government was accused by the opposition of having broken the law and order.
