On July 9, Vikas was arrested by the Ujjain police and handed over to Uttar Pradesh’s STF team after official procedure.

According to the police, “The car with which Vikas was being brought near Kanpur on Friday morning had an accident in which dome policemen were also injured in this accident, taking advantage of the opportunity, Vikas tried to snatch an officer’s pistol and started running.” In retaliation, the police also fired, in which Vikas got 4 bullets. Doctors declared Vikas dead in Kanpur hospital.

In this entire action, 2 police personnel were also shot and two other police personnel were injured. Treatment of all four policemen is going on in a hospital in Kanpur. Doctors said they are out of danger. IG zone Kanpur Mohit Aggarwal termed the incident as historic and praised all police personnel. The petitioner Ghanyshyam Upadhyay filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) before the Supreme Court on Friday seeking CBI probe into the killing of five of Vikas Dubey’s aides by the Uttar Pradesh Police. All the five men were gunned down in encounter.

“Killing of accused by police in the name of encounter is against the rule of law and serious violation of human right and this is nothing short of Talibanisation of the country,” the petition stated.
